Subject: RE: student flow ENSEIRB (FBORDEAU11) to Sheffield (UK SHEFFIE02) for 2003 Date: Wed, 2 Oct 2002 10:46:01 +0100 From: "Travis, Jon R" To: Paul Y Gloess Dear Paul Thank you for your email. Accepting your students for 5 to 8 months is no problem. With regard to numbers, we can easily take up to four students. However, if more of the second choice students want to come to Sheffield, please let me know and I will try to ensure that this is possible. I am the local coordinator for a large ESPRIT project concerned with machine vision and this has generated a number of smaller computing, electronics and telecomms. projects ideally suited to visiting European students. We also have active Communications and Sensor research groups and your students may find the following web sites of interest: http://www.shu.ac.uk/mmvl/micron/index.html and http://www.shu.ac.uk/erg. In the meantime I am attaching a pro-forma enrollment form (ENR-SOCRATES-v2f) which the students should complete and return to me. This will ensure that they receive information about accommodation etc. I am also attaching a list of typical project areas (euro-proj-areas.xls) in Computing, Communications and Electronics. It would be helpful if students intending to join us could indicate their areas of interest / expertise on this list and return to me. I hope you have more success with Semesterisation than us - we are seriously considering returning to a Term based system !! We encounter two problems - firstly, students seem to assimilate information better if it is delivered over a longer period than one semester and, secondly, setting up two sets of assessment boards per year involves twice as much staff time. I look forward to hearing from you, Best wishes Jon Travis <> <> Dr Jon Travis Electronics and Computing Subject Group Leader SOCRATES Coordinator School of Engineering Sheffield Hallam University Pond Street Sheffield S1 1WB UK T: ++44 (0) 114 225 3300 F: ++44 (0) 114 225 3433 > -----Original Message----- > From: Paul Y Gloess [SMTP:Paul.Gloess@enseirb.fr] > Sent: 01 October 2002 17:02 > To: Jonathan R Travis > Cc: Evelyne Blanchard > Subject: student flow ENSEIRB (FBORDEAU11) to Sheffield (UK SHEFFIE02) for 2003 > > Dear Dr Jonathan R Travis: > > ENSEIRB has moved to a "semester system": this means that student final > projects will start as early as february 1, 2003, and will last from 5 > to 8 months. > > This year, we have 7 students (advanced level = last year of studies) > potentially interested in completing their final project at your > university.
